I really don't like winter. Don't care much for it at all. Even though I've lived in California all my life (well, except for the first year I was born.), I really don't see the need for any seasons other than summer and spring. I see those people snowed in on the east coast and think to myself, "They go through this every winter... you'd think they'd know enough to have moved out the LAST time the snow melted."
So what to do in the winter? Be indoors. Egadds, sometimes the temperature here in SoCal can drop down to even 60 degrees in the evening. Or even colder, yes.. I tell you the truth. Stay indoors and.. what's this? Ahh.. my computer! Hmm, I do believe I'll log-in. Just for a few minutes, of course. Let's see, we'll drop in and chat on the Mirc channels for awhile. A couple heavy debates on theology followed by inane comments about laundry and racism. Enough of that. But...
As long as I'm on-line, may as well check the e-mail. Hmm, another letter from those girls at the school in Cape Town, Africa.. I better jot them down a quick reply, oh, and I'll forward them that funny story I got from Debbie up in San Jose. And I better drop a line to the other Debbie, my friend in Kentucky, to see how she's getting along. Heck, I'll just tap out a little something for everybody... as long as I'm on-line.
You know, all I gotta do is clik on this icon, like so.. and hey, my web-browser up and running. May as well look around the Net, see what recommendations are hip today for 'cool site of the day'. But just for a minute, of course. After all it's getting pretty late and I still haven't had lunch. Wow, a home-page devoted to Debbie Gibson! I gotta add this to my list of hyper-links on my web-page. No problem, I'll just clik open my web-page editor, add another window for my FTP client... should only take a minute or two. Wow, is it really 11pm or is that clock fast?
Hey, hold it a minute... I didn't know I had a misspelled word on the cover of my home-page! I better pull up that file and edit that as well. (May as well, being on-line already and all.) Okay, that's all taken care of. (ding!) Hey, some more e-mail came in! Better check it before I log-off. But first I'll open another window so I can download this WAV file of William Shatner singing "Mr. Tambourine Man"...
And on it goes before I suddenly realise, it's 4a.m. and I gotta get up for work at, well.. 6:30a.m. You know, two and a half hours isn't much sleep. In fact, going to bed now would only slow down this momentum I've got going. To avoid getting drowsy, I decide it'd be better if I just stayed up. Hmm.. what's that smell? I go to the kitchen. It's not a pretty sight. There, dying a slow pitiful death is the top-ramen noodles lying once again dehydrated at the bottom of the pan I'd set to simmer about, oh.. six hours ago.
Well, no time to cook. I'm on-line and time is money so.. I'll just have... a handful of cooking chocolate, a few spoonfuls of p-nut butter and some kiwi/strawberry soda so I can get back to the terminal. Wow, that sun sure is bright.
But now, comes the spring. Ahh... spring, I love it. Followed closely by my other favorite, summer! You know, if I get a lap-top and find a way to hook up a cellular phone to a modem... I could log-in while I'm at the beach! Hmm, but then the salt air might not be good for the motherboard. I know, every other day I'll go to the beach, and log-in on the other days. Or maybe alternate every other summer. This summer I could be on-line and then next summer... ... ..
